When you buy a new vehicle in the United Kingdom. You must complete the MOT test after completing the third year of vehicle registration to check the roadworthiness and safety of the vehicle.   In this blog, we can see the different types of car servicing and discuss the components checked in these MOT tests.

Car servicing is a process in which we can go to a garage with our car and have the garage repair and replace some components in our car after a certain period. These are categories in three different ways, including interim, full and major car servicing.

Interim: Interim service can be done every six months and when your vehicle has travelled 6000 miles. These services include more than 55+ checks, including fluid replacements, tyre air pressure inspection, braking checks, and some basic checks, such as cleaning.

Full service: It can be done every 12 months or when your vehicle completes 12000 miles. These tests included more than 75+ checks. Interim car service Coventry is also included in these car services. These services include changing all the filters, such as air, pollen, and fuel filters, coolant replacement, and other component checks.

Major car servicing:- It is the highest level of car service in the range. During these tests, more than 78+ checks are performed. Full car servicing is also included in these checks. During the checks, they check your wheel alignment and balancing and your vehicle’s suspension, steering, and braking system. If they find any type of damage, then they will repair or replace it.

An MOT is an annual test that can be done after the third year of vehicle registration. It ensures the safety, conditions and roadworthiness of your vehicles. The Ministry of Transportation of the United Kingdom introduced the MOT test in 1962, which is why this name is MOT. Initially, three tests can be done in this test. However, to improve safety and roadworthiness, they added some other components. There are a total of 20 component checks in these tests. These components are essential for your protection and our nature.  Components that are checked in these tests are:-

Suspension and steering: Both components are essential for the handling and comfort of your vehicle. Approximately 26% of the MOT failures are due to these two components. When you drive your car on the road, many potholes and kerbs can cause resistance. And disturb your comfort in the vehicle. Then, these suspensions absorb multiple types of shocks and comfort you. They are also responsible for providing the height of your tyres. Similarly, steering helps to handle your vehicle. During the MOT Coventry test, they check the condition of the steering wheel, its functionalities, and the wear and tear of other parts of these components, like the axle and rod. After the steering, they check your suspension conditions, including the cracks, damages and the fluid level of the suspension.

Tyres and wheels: tyres are essential components in your vehicle. Because it is the only component directly connected to the road and is responsible for the handling and stability of the car, during the MOT test, they check all the parts of the tyres, including the sidewall, and the visual and physical inspection. They check your vehicle’s overall condition, including bulges, air pressure, damages, cuts, cracks, and other flaws that can cause a puncture or burst. They check the tread depth of your tyres and, lastly, check your wheel alignment and balancing. Because 12% of the tests fail due to tyres, why do You need to maintain your car tyres properly?

Braking system: During the MOT test, your braking system, including your brake pad, pedal, hammer, disc, and fluid level, is checked. It is one of the main components which are related to your safety. 16% of the tests fail due to any disturbance in your brake. They check your brake efficiency on the running wheel.

Exhaust and fuel system:- approximately 12% of the motor failures are due to the exhaust and its fuel system. During the test, they check your smog density and inspect all the components essential for your vehicle’s safety and the environment. They check your exhaust filter, catalytic converter, oxygen sensor, tailpipe and other exhaust system parts. After that, the examiner checks your fuel system, like fuel tanks, hoses, and pipes. Checks all the damaged parts like cracks, leaks, and corroded parts, as well as checks the connection and other faults on the fuel system.

Other parts of the vehicle: During the MOT test, many other remaining components are checked, such as the door, windows, glass, mirror, horn, seatbelt, windshield, and many others.

Conclusion: Car servicing is categorised into interim, full, and major. All these can be done after certain periods, like 6, 24, and 12 months, or after completing a certain distance, like 6000, 12000, and 24000 miles. We can see the different checks that are important to check before booking an MOT. These components are tyres, steering, suspension, fluids, braking system, and other components of the vehicle, which are important for the roadworthiness of your vehicle.
